Integrating Psychological Health and Safety with Hybrid Workspaces
Presented by: Geoffrey Thompson, OHN, Occupational Health Centre
These days working from home remains a privilege for those who still can. It isn’t suited for everyone or even feasible for essential front-line workers. Nevertheless, in 2020 – 2021 many workers were forced to suddenly work from home. Returning to the office has meant finding ways to balance the wants, needs and fears of workers. As we head into a 3rd COVID winter we know the virus isn’t through with us yet. Promoting remote work (whenever possible) remains an effective public health measure in limiting viral transmission. It seems the worst of the pandemic is behind us now, but we’re left with many pieces to pick up. Can we keep the “best parts” of remote work that prioritize true work-life flexibility, protect mental health, and enhance teamwork? Reflecting on lessons learned these past couple of years, we have an exciting opportunity to reimagine the future of psychologically safe (hybrid) workspaces.
Join us this morning as we:
– Discuss up-to-date research highlighting equity-based hybrid & remote work best practices that account for diverse expressions of human needs
– Explore psychologically safe communication strategies shown to help bridge divides between different workplace stakeholders
– Anchor learning to a ‘conscious leadership’ model; one that enhances perspective-taking, promotes transparent decision-making and builds trust.
