On Wednesday September 30th The OHC held 2015 Annual General Meeting on the second floor of the Union Centre. A lunch event, it was well attended by board and advisory group members, stakeholders and staff. Minister Erna Braun (Labour and Immigration) was in attendance and brought greeting on behalf of the Province of Manitoba, and the Board Chair Kevin Rebeck introduced the 6 new board members. These new members are:
Peter Reimer, Brent Charron, Les Ellsworth, Glenn Tomchak, John Callahan and Monica Gerouard
The OHC’s Executive Director Michael Kelly presented the results of a 2015-2017 strategic plan that was developed this spring and the opportunities it represents to re-connect with stakeholders as well as initiate new research, education and partnerships. The Keynote was delivered by our own, Dr. Robert Chase who shared the OHC’s work in piloting his story boarding project called the Collective Narrative (see below)
OHC worked with a group of newcomers employed in the food processing sector. Mapping out their life stories on a story board they were able to communicate their expectations and experiences about coming to Canada, settling and working. This process helped to specify areas in working experience that affected their safety and health and helped them discern and articulate experiences which these communities either do not, cannot or find hard to communicate through other means.
